We have launched a community petition calling for road safety improvements to the key junction of St Helens Road, Burrows Lane, and St James Road.
This busy junction has long been a hotspot for accidents, with several near misses also reported to us by local residents, especially when turning right onto St Helens Road from Burrows Lane and St James Road, posing safety risks to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Nationally, a large proportion of collisions happen at junctions, and in St Helens, around 44% of all collisions occur at a junction. Recent figures show that between 2021 and 2024, there have been four road traffic accidents at this location, emphasising the need for road safety improvements.
Other areas of St Helens have seen significant investment to make roads and junctions safer, and this key junction should be considered as part of St Helens Council’s ‘junction improvement plan’, outlined in its Road Safety Strategy 2023 - 2037.
We hope the petition will garner widespread support across Eccleston Park, prompting St Helens Council to take swift action and conduct a thorough road safety assessment to identify and implement necessary changes.
